OSHC INALA SCHOOL AGE CARE

As our service grows we are continuously seeking expressions of interest to join or team as a casual supervisor.

School Aged Care supervisors deliver recreational activities to young children aged between 5 and 15 years. We require individuals who work in the education, youth and sport & recreation sector to coordinate the day to day operations of the service as well as actively contribute towards long term strategic directions of the service.
School Aged Care gives young people a safe and happy play environment. These young children have the opportunity to partake in a variety of activities which include:

  • Sports

  • Arts
  • Practical life skills
  • Leadership
  • Teamwork

Working in the outside school hours care sector offers you a range of opportunities and experiences. This will assist in your career success and progression. If your studying education, youth work, sport and recreation this is
the opportunity for you to utilise and pass on your theoretical and professional experience to the service.

The service is a vibrant environment that encourages the development of new ways of doing things, whilst maintaining a high level of professionalism. Our program is as good as our staff hence we want to enhance your professional development and our quality.

Hours of operation:
Before School Care 6.30 am– 9.00 am
After School Care 2.00 am—6.00 pm
Vacation Care 7.00 am—6.00 pm
Days can be negotiated to fit university timetables. Increased hours during Vacation Care are available.

The successful applicant should have:

  • Completion or study toward a certificate or degree in childcare, education, youth work or sport and recreation.
  • A criminal history check and suitability notice (blue card) or evidence that this check is being processed. (Blue cards can be applied for through the PCYC).
  • Current first aid certificate (or agreement to attain this within two months of beginning employment)

Training

Induction training is provided to all new staff and volunteers including:

  • Children’s Health and Safety
  • Guiding Behaviour
  • Food Allergies
  • Health and Nutrition

Uniform

Staff are required to meet PCYC dress standards:

  • PCYC Shirt
  • PCYC Hat
  • Name Tag
  • Black Shorts/pants
  • Smile

Supervisors Responsibilities

  • Actively assist with planning and preparation of interesting, diverse and fun activities for children.
  • Have an activity planned and prepared prior to commencing work each shift.
  • Ensuring that children are safe and well supervised at all times through been actively involved with the children.
  • Encouraging children to take responsibility for the care and maintenance of equipment and report any defects.
  • Encourage children to be responsible for their own behaviour and to promote positive self-esteem.
  • To maintain a clean and safe environment before, during and after daily program.
  • Communicating with families, members of the community and other staff members daily, to make all those who work at, and use the service, feel welcomed and informed.
  • Being involved in rule setting procedures in conjunction with children and other staff members.
  • Ensuring that the service is attractive and inviting to our client group.
  • Working as part of a team, assisting all staff members in their endeavours to provide an efficient, quality service.
  • Be flexible enough to cope with change and be spontaneous, where appropriate.
  • Undertake and maintain a First Aid qualification.
  • Attending and participating in staff training and development.
  • Smoking is not permitted at PCYC centres or grounds. We consider ourselves a total smoke free work environment.

Three Month Competency Plan

Submit resume and certified copies of :

  • Educational results and enrolment
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Blue Card
  • Other qualifications
  • Attend interview process
  • Attend one shift at PCYC for suitability assessment by children and yourself
  • Commence Work
  • Induction package
  • Complete three introductory ‘shadow’ shifts
  • 3 hour introductory training session (In first six weeks)
  • Successfully participate with children and improve service
  • Maintain high personal, professional and service standards
  • first aid certificate
  • Obtain light rigid ‘bus’ licence. (If current open licence holder)
  • Successfully participant in three month review.
  • Receive recognition as competent PCYC School Care Supervisor.
